The Pompey Charity Squad was formed in 2004 by Touchline Tony Male. Using his contacts at Fratton Park he managed to arrange the first game, against Power FM. That first squad contained the likes of Alan Knight MBE, Andy Awford, Steve Foster and Paul Walsh. That one game sowed the seed for many future charity fixtures.

The squad exists to help raise funds for many diverse charities including The Oakley Waterman Caravan Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Trust, Fitzroy, Help for Heroes, The Lee Rigby Foundation and Portsmouth In The Community. Since its formation the charity squad has helped to raise many thousands of pounds for more than seventy different charities.

Each year the squad plays around 10-12 matches. At each match the team normally consists of, subject to availability, around 6 or 7 ex professionals from Pompey's past. The team is supplemented by former youth team and reserve players plus a number who have paid for the priviledge of appearing alongside the ex-pros.

The charity squad itself relies upon sponsors and donations to help provide and maintain the kit, footballs, administration and associated equipment. In addition, this site will aim to raise further funds through the sale of photographs taken at each match, including any pre/post-match fund raising events.
